The Spiritual Wisdom of Cats: Lessons from Mel, The Podcast Kitty

Cats are often called mysterious, but those of us who live with them know they’re also some of the greatest teachers of presence, intuition, and unconditional love. For 21 years, I had the gift of sharing my life — and my podcast — with Mel, The Podcast Kitty. She wasn’t just a pet. She was a co-host, a companion, and a quiet reminder that sometimes the deepest wisdom comes without words.
Here are a few of the lessons Mel — and all cats — teach us if we’re willing to listen:
1️⃣ Presence is power. Mel could nap for hours in the same room as me while I recorded, and somehow her stillness added calm to the space. Cats remind us that just being — without doing — has value.
2️⃣ Intuition is guidance. Cats know who to curl up next to, when to leap, when to retreat. They trust their instincts fully. Mel always knew when I needed comfort, often before I did.
3️⃣ Rest is sacred. While the world glorifies constant productivity, cats unapologetically rest. Mel showed me that slowing down isn’t weakness — it’s wisdom.
4️⃣ Love is in the little things. A gentle paw, a soft purr, a watchful gaze. Cats show us that love doesn’t always need grand gestures. It lives in the quiet moments.
Mel’s passing has left our family heartbroken, but her spirit continues to remind me — and now, I hope, all of you — that life is about connection, presence, and love. Every cat carries this wisdom. Mel simply lived it out loud alongside me, on The Best Ever You Show.
So tonight, as I light a candle for her, I also honor all the cats — past and present — who have taught us how to live closer to our truest selves.
Here’s to Mel, and here’s to the sacred wisdom of cats.
